What Is The Wellness Centre?
- Located at the school beside the guidance offices we cater to students' physical and emotional well-being
- A Nurse Practitioner, Social Worker, Dietitian and Public Health Nurse work within the Centre and take walk-in and scheduled appointments
- Students can refer themselves for services in person or through a confidential self-referral box
- We are available free of charge to students
- Specialized services are confidential and barrier-free for students
- Hours of availability vary depending on the service
- Services are offered weekly

Who Are We?
Registered Dietitian: WECHC
- Our Dietitian's goal is to encourage normal, healthy eating in a non-judgmental environment while preventing eating problems and promoting positive body image and general health and well being
- Counselling and education to students and teachers on a variety of eating and body image issues
Nurse Practitioner: WECHC
- Our Nurse Practitioner focuses on wellness promotion and illness prevention
- Offers healthy sexuality and responsible contraception care
- As Registered Nurses in the Extended Class (Nurse Practitioners), they can assess, diagnose, treat and prescribe for a number of conditions, as well as provide health teaching and education
Registered Social Worker: WECHC
- The Social Worker’s main focus is to be a support to teens that request it
- Provide emotional support and increase coping and skills to assist in managing their specific situations
- Youth will be encouraged to take responsibility for their own behaviour and wellness; this gives them a sense of ownership and control that teens seek
- Sometimes teens choose to come in with friends for support and that is OK too
- Students have the opportunity to participate in individual and/or group counselling in areas such as:
- Anger/stress management
- Anxiety
- Self-esteem/confidence
- Self Harm
- Depression
- Relationships with peers and others
- Personal/family relationship problems
- Communication and social skills

Public Health Nurse: Elgin St. Thomas Public Health
- Promote healthy living programs to students, healthy sexuality and substance abuse
- Work with students to provide peer led health messages
- Assist school staff to identify and manage school health issues
- Provide staff with information about where to refer students with health problems
- Provide staff, students and parents with information about health issues, as well as provide access to other health unit services
